Metasomatism by Boron-Rich Fluids along Permian Low-Angle Normal Faults (Central Southern Alps, N Italy)

چکیده

Low-Angle Normal Faults (LANFs) represent in the central Southern Alps area (N Italy) main structures along which Variscan basement is contact with Upper Carboniferous-Permian volcanic-sedimentary succession. Tourmalinites frequently occur LANFs, usually replacing former cataclasites. The mineralogy and chemical composition of tourmalinites point to a metasomatic origin. together high-angle faults, controlled opening Permian Orobic Basin likely acted as preferred pathway for hydrothermal fluids that triggered Boron-metasomatism. Along Aga-Vedello LANF, appear have formed after cessation fault activity, no brittle post-metasomatism deformation overprint has been observed. These relationships suggest circulation B-rich occurred broadly constrained Early Permian. At same time, ca. 285–270 Ma, strong magmatic activity affected all Alps, ranging from mafic acidic rocks intrusions at deep crustal levels effusive volcanic products. magmatism was source late-stage tourmalinites. could also played significant role formation Uranium ore deposit Novazza-Vedello mining district, bodies Vedello valley are concentrated basement-cover contact.

End-permian Mass Extinction of Lagenide Foraminifers in the Southern Alps (northern Italy)

The Permian–Triassic boundary, examined at two sections in the Southern Alps, occurs 1.0 to 1.5 m above the base of the Tesero Oolite Member of the Werfen Formation in a depositionally continuous sequence of inner neritic carbonates. Lagenide foraminifers from the boundary interval comprise 27 species in 15 genera plus additional unidentified taxa, most of which became extinct during the end-Pe...

Ethnobotanical remarks on Central and Southern Italy

BACKGROUND The present paper is a brief survey on the ethnobotanical works published by the Authors since 1981, concerning the research carried out in some southern and central Italian regions. Before Roman domination these territories were first inhabited by local people, while the southern areas were colonized by the Greeks. These different cultural contributions left certain traces, both in ...

Low Incidence of Stroke in Southern Italy

Background and Purpose—Although a lower incidence of stroke has been observed in the Mediterranean area compared to other European countries, this is based on only a few studies. We sought to determine the incidence and 28-day case-fatality of stroke through a population-based stroke register in a rural area in Southern Italy, characterized by a stroke unit in the referral hospital. Methods—We ...

Rainfall triggering soil slips in the southern Apuan Alps (Tuscany, Italy)

The Apuan Alps are characterized by frequent heavy rainfall. In several cases this triggered many shallow landslides (soil slips). With the aim of contributing to the landslide hazard evaluation of the southern Apuan Alps (upper Versilian area), a detailed analysis of the main pluviometric events was carried out. Data recorded at the main raingauge of the area from 1975 to 2002 were analysed an...
